General Secretary and President To Lam met with the Vietnamese community in US

During his working trip to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly's High-Level Debate and conduct bilateral activities in the United States , on the evening of September 21 (local time) in New York City, General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation attended the cultural and artistic event "Vietnam: Journey of the Homeland through Film and Music" and met with the Vietnamese community in the United States.

The event was attended by over 2,000 delegates, including United Nations officials, American and international friends, and a large number of representatives from the Vietnamese community in the United States. This was the largest overseas meeting between Party and State leaders and the community to date, attracting the largest number of overseas Vietnamese participants.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his pleasure to learn that the Vietnamese community in the United States is growing in size, becoming more dynamic, integrating well, and making many positive contributions to the local government, as well as contributing to promoting friendly cooperative relations between Vietnam and the United States.

Informing the community about Vietnam's development achievements in recent years, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that our country has made very important and comprehensive progress in many fields. With the United States, the relationship between the two countries has developed increasingly deeply and substantively, from trade, investment, education to science and technology, innovation, defense and security, and addressing the consequences of war. The two countries increasingly share common interests and have more room for cooperation. From the differences and pain of the past, the two countries have gradually built trust, expanded cooperation, developed, and shared strategic interests.

General Secretary and President To Lam expressed pride in a Vietnamese community that is hardworking, dynamic, and resilient, always looking towards their homeland and roots.

For young Vietnamese Americans, having the opportunity to study at top universities, work for large corporations, conduct research in state-of-the-art laboratories, and start businesses using new technologies is a personal success, a source of pride for the community, and a part of the future of the Vietnamese nation.

General Secretary and President To Lam stated that on August 2, 2026, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW on the work related to overseas Vietnamese, concretizing the major policies of the 14th National Congress and marking a new development in the Party's thinking, determining that overseas Vietnamese are not only an inseparable part of the Vietnamese national community, but also one of the important strategic resources contributing to enhancing the overall national strength.

In the coming period, the Party and the State will continue to improve the institutional framework, mechanisms, and policies to create a comprehensive, open, and groundbreaking system to connect, attract, and effectively utilize the resources of overseas Vietnamese, especially intellectuals, experts, entrepreneurs, scientists , and the younger generation of Vietnamese living abroad.

General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that in the cause of national development in the new era, it is necessary to continue to promote the strength of the great national unity, combined with the strength of the times. Domestic and international resources must be connected. Material resources must go hand in hand with intellectual resources.

The strength of over 100 million Vietnamese people at home must be combined with the strength of 6.5 million Vietnamese people living, studying, and working around the world. Only then will we surely achieve our goals.

The Vietnamese community in the United States is the largest Vietnamese community in the world, with a history intertwined with the profound changes in their homeland during the 20th century.

Within the community, there are many generations, circumstances, and perspectives on history. However, "Vietnam is one country, the Vietnamese people are one nation" is a truth that will never change.

General Secretary and President To Lam shared that having gone through war and division with much suffering and loss, we deeply appreciate the value of peace. Each of us hopes that future generations will inherit the good values that peace brings: a peaceful life, freedom to work, study, and create; compassion, tolerance, trust, unity, and the aspiration to build a stronger, more prosperous, civilized, and happy Vietnam.

General Secretary and President To Lam called on the community to close the chapter on the past and work together to build the nation's future, which is also for the future of our children and grandchildren. This is not just a wish, but a responsibility of our generation to future generations.

General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his hope that Vietnamese people in the United States would join hands to realize the aspiration of developing a strong and prosperous Vietnam through concrete actions such as expanding global networks of Vietnamese intellectuals; connecting Vietnamese businesses with overseas Vietnamese businesses in the United States; creating more exchange programs for students, professors, and experts; creating conditions for young Vietnamese people in the United States to return to Vietnam for internships, research, and entrepreneurship; building joint projects in science, technology, education, health, culture, and innovation; and creating new bridges to strengthen relations between Vietnam and the United States.

Every successful Vietnamese person in the United States can contribute to making Vietnam's image more widely known. Every entrepreneur can open another door to cooperation. Every scientist can build another bridge of knowledge. Every student can create another connection between the two countries.

General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the country always welcomes and appreciates all contributions, whether direct or from afar, from its people. Joining hands and contributing to building the homeland is the spirit of "national solidarity and brotherhood".

General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his wish that Vietnamese people in the United States preserve the Vietnamese language and pass on the cultural values, customs, and fine traditions of the nation to the younger generation of overseas Vietnamese, because this is the strong bond connecting every Vietnamese person to their homeland and roots.

In addition, Vietnamese people in the United States need to play the role of "cultural ambassadors," bringing Vietnamese identity closer to the American people and international friends.

On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam, along with the Vietnamese community in the United States, enjoyed the art program "Vietnam: The Journey of the Homeland Through Film and Music".

This special cultural and artistic event is organized in a format combining film and music to recreate the journey from the struggle for independence and national reunification to innovation, integration, and development.
