Vietnamese Women in the Czech Republic: From building livelihoods to integration and development

These efforts were highlighted by a delegation from the Vietnam Women's Union and TYM during a visit to learn about several business models operated by Vietnamese people in the Tachov area, as part of the delegation's working programme in the Czech Republic from September 7 to 9, 2026.
The delegation, led by Tran Lan Phuong, Standing Deputy President of the Vietnam Women's Union and a member of the 16th National Assembly, visited Asian Market Katerina, a commercial centre near the border with the Federal Republic of Germany. The area is home to numerous Vietnamese-owned businesses that have been established and developed over more than 30 years.
The delegation was accompanied in Tachov by Ngo Thi Thu Huong, First Secretary at the Embassy of Vietnam in the Czech Republic.
During the visit, the delegation met with members of the Vietnamese community, learned about their businesses and spoke with female business owners about their experiences in building, maintaining and developing their livelihoods in the host country.
The delegation visited Monika Shop, owned by Tong Thi Lien Hong, Vice President of the Tachov Women's Club. The relatively large retail establishment offers a wide range of essential goods. The delegation also visited Dalens Shop and Dalens Restaurant, owned by Hoang Thi Minh Trang, a member of the Executive Committee of the Tachov Women's Club, which combines retail and food services.
These businesses demonstrate the initiative of Vietnamese women in responding to market demand, diversifying their business activities and gradually developing their operations in a more stable and professional direction.

Of particular note was the delegation's visit to Essence Restaurant, a modern Asian dining establishment directly managed and operated by the second generation of a Vietnamese family in the Czech Republic.
This continuity reflects a new stage in the community's integration process: from the older generation's efforts to establish a life and build livelihoods to younger generations having greater opportunities to integrate into local society, adopt new management practices and further develop businesses built by their families.
It is also a notable feature of the Vietnamese community's journey towards greater stability and development in the Czech Republic across generations.
As part of the programme in Tachov, the delegation held a working session with members of the Executive Committee of the Tachov Women's Club and Vietnamese women in the local community.
The meeting was attended by Nguyen Thi Bich Lien, Vice President of the European Vietnamese Women's Union and President of the Vietnamese Women's Association in the Czech Republic; Nguyen Kim Loi, Vice President of the Vietnamese Women's Association in the Czech Republic and President of the Tachov Women's Club; as well as other Vice Presidents of the Vietnamese Women's Association in the Czech Republic and members of the Club's Executive Committee.
On behalf of the Tachov Women's Club, Nguyen Thi Kien shared the history and activities of the Club. Established in 2010, the Club now has 155 members, including 111 official members. It serves as a space for women to connect, share experiences and support one another, while maintaining community activities, helping preserve Vietnamese cultural identity and strengthening ties with their homeland.

Speaking at the meeting, Tran Lan Phuong affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam have consistently paid attention to the Vietnamese community overseas, recognising overseas Vietnamese as an integral part of the Vietnamese nation. She expressed her appreciation for the solidarity, integration, development and positive contributions of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, both to the host society and to their homeland.
The Standing Deputy President of the Vietnam Women's Union highly valued the dynamism and determination of Vietnamese women in Tachov, as well as the role of the Tachov Women's Club in bringing women together, maintaining community activities and connecting different generations.
She emphasised that, while living abroad, women play a particularly important role in preserving culture, nurturing family values and maintaining younger generations' connection with their homeland and roots. In this regard, greater attention should be paid to teaching, learning and using Vietnamese within families and communities, helping younger generations born and raised in the Czech Republic gain a deeper understanding of Vietnam's culture, history and national identity.

Through the business models visited by the delegation and the experiences shared by Vietnamese women in Tachov, it is clear that the journey of integration is being carried forward from one generation to the next: from establishing livelihoods and securing a stable life to improving business operations, proactively adapting to change and taking an active part in the host community.
Together with the bonds fostered through local women's organisations, these efforts are creating greater opportunities for Vietnamese women overseas to confidently develop their abilities, establish their place in society, contribute to their local communities and maintain strong ties with their homeland.
They also help promote an image of Vietnamese women as dynamic, resilient, well-integrated and confident in making their mark in their communities.
